The jungle around the Loving Light Amazon Lodge is home to many of Peru's
most famous creatures including howler and squirrel monkeys, alligators, anacondas, the
fearsome piranha, and over 500 species of birds. Our experienced guides can provide
safe viewing of all the jungle's inhabitants.
The Toucan is one of the most beautiful birds in the rain forest.
Their beaks may look heavy, but they are actually very light. Long and pointed, they
allow them to easily get to the various fruits which they love. They sleep with
their beaks on their backs and tails over their heads.
Bamboo is a giant grass found in the rain forest and can grow up to 120 feet
high and have stems 12 inches in diameter. One bamboo plant was recorded growing at
a rate of 36 inches in 24 hours.

Squirrel monkeys are
new
world monkeys which come
from South America. A very
small monkey, it is mostly
brown and white.

Howler monkeys are larger
and can be very loud. They
can be found in abundant
numbers near the Loving
Light Amazon Lodge.
While
Hollywood has
demonized the piranha, and
they can be vicious feeders,
we actually swam amongst
them in the Amazon with no
problems.

A local "visitor" is displayed by one of the
Loving Light bilingual guides. Don't worry, you won't find these
in your bungalow! |
